Bourke’s office of the NSW Department of Communities and Justice is one of the beneficiaries of the work being carried out by the teams at the North West Academic Centre.

The North West Academic Centre (NWAC) team has been nominated for the Sydney University Vice Chancellors Award for Outstanding Contribution.  

Local health care providers have partnered together to strengthen primary health services in Wentworth and surrounding areas. Dubbed “Collaborative Care”, this program involves a range of local services that are all dedicated to better health care in the region.

New accommodation for visiting health students in Bourke has been funding by the Federal Government's Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program. Almost half a million dollars was allocated for the student accommodation.

The North West Academic Centre, which was established in December 2016 is based on the grounds of Bourke Hospital.
