SOCIAL WORK

The BHUDRH supports placement opportunities for social work students within the Broken Hill community.

The BHUDRH has collaborated with local health services, non-government organisations (NGOs) and schools, to provide field education placement opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate social work students.

Field education provides students with the opportunity to integrate theory with practice and establish professional proficiency in line with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Practice Standards and Ethics.

A placement in Broken Hill exposes students to the unique joys and challenges of social work in a remote location, thus promoting rural and remote career options for the future.

The BHUDRH supports host agencies and students to develop a mutually beneficial scope of placement tasks and activities that align with AASW requirements while also providing a service of value to the local community.

There are opportunities for students to be engaged in direct practice with individuals, families and groups as well as indirect practice with policy, research and evaluation.

Both academic and pastoral support is provided by the BHUDRH.
